Audiophile Flexi Rack
The nanotheater Flexi Shelf is our US adaption of what has become a
European Audiophile standard - the three legged Flexy Shelf. We
discovered (visits to 6 Home Depots & 2 Lowes) that many
of the basics for constructing this low cost shelf were unavailable to
many US and Canadian residents because of our Home Depot/Lowes-centric,
Big Box
methods of lumber and hardware distribution. Put bluntly, we
(Lowes/Home Depot) have everything- but you can't get it here, move
along,
can't you see we are in the middle of the Spring (Summer, Fall,
Christmas) gardening season? And we at Big Box are too busy trying to
woo the contractors from the local lumberyards to care about you?
So, we at nanotheater put together simple diy kits for you- Each has the ability to produce an audiophile quality shelf with the minimum of fuss that would look acceptable in your living room (high WAF-Wife Acceptance Factor) BauHaus to colonial.
Shelves on the Flexi 2, and 3 are 24" wide, 15" deep, 3/4" thick. The height of the unit is 36". You adjust the height of each shelf and level to your needs.
Flexi 1 A 3 shelf kit consists of only the hardware, the stainless steel washers, stainless threaded rods, stainless cap nuts, stainless nuts, rubber washers, and instructions. You supply your own shelf material, you drill, finish, and assemble yourself. (Be aware that if you choose MDF for a shelf material, it produces a lot of sawdust and requires a titanium blade to work.)
Flexi 1.4 A 4 legged model - 4 support rods, 6 additional nuts, etc. Less easy to level but more stable if you have children in the house
Flexi 1B Additional Shelf- Each includes extra nuts, washers, for additional shelf.

Flexi 2 A 3 shelf kit consists of MDF shelf material, veneered, pre drilled, all the hardware and instructions as above. You supply stain and assembly. No power tools required.
Flexi 2.4 - A 4 legged model- 4 support rods, 6 additional nuts, etc. Additional hole drilled. Less easy to level but more stable if you have children in the house.

Flexi 3 A 3 shelf kit consists of finished, stained MDF veneered shelves, all the hardware and instructions as above. Ready for assembly.

Is it as good as the higher price audiophile quality shelves? We believe it is, with the addition of weighted bases for equipment like turntables and cd players. Can you get a cheaper preassembled or kit for an equipment rack? Absolutely.
